Get To Know Us: Lisa Gant Fisher, MAS Director of Operations

By Christopher Collier, guest writer of the MAS

Welcome back to Get to Know Us, a Q/A series giving readers a personal look into the lives and careers of MAS staff members.

Today’s guest is Lisa Gant Fisher, MAS Director of Operations.

Fisher spent her childhood in New Mexico and Texas, moving to Georgia when she was 15 years old. Growing up, her family taught her the importance of reading and writing, propelling her to a 7th-grade reading level while in just 1st grade. Fisher frequently scanned Time, Newsweek, and any magazine she could get her hands on, developing a passion for meaningful journalism. She would go on to study journalism at the University of Georgia and public administration at Valdosta State University.

Fisher joined the Museum of Arts and Sciences 26 years ago. Today, she is the Director of Operations at the museum—a place she calls her second home. Managing staff operations, Fisher ensures that the MAS runs like a well-oiled machine.

Q/A Section

Q: What is your favorite part about working at the museum?

A: It’s time working with my fellow co-workers. It’s that time of being together. Even if you’re doing something that’s just drudgery, and we’re all soaking wet because we’re hot and we’re outside, we’re just together and we laugh. So it’s truly the team—that’s really what it boils down to.

Q: Did you visit many museums as a kid?

A: I grew up attending museums because my parents made sure I did that. They took me all over the world. My mom took me all over Europe. I’ve been to Egypt and Jordan and all kinds of really fabulous places. So I have just grown up going to museums.

Q: Let’s talk about life outside of the museum. What is your favorite hobby outside of work?

A: I enjoy shopping, and I do love miniatures. Anything that is so tiny [that] you can barely see it—I think that that’s amazing that someone can craft that.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant?

A: My favorite is Harry’s Bar in Venice, but my Macon favorite is Natalia’s.

Q: What is your favorite tv show right now?

A: “Yellowstone.” It’s centered around a very prominent family headed by Kevin Costner. It’s in the Yellowstone [National Park] area, [and] the scenery is actually gorgeous.

Q: What are some of your favorite movies?

A: I’m a “Harry Potter” girl—love “Harry Potter.” And I love “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and anything “Star Trek.”
