The MAS would like to wish a Happy Birthday to the

The MAS would like to wish a Happy Birthday to the late Beverly Buchanan.

Renowned multimedia artist Beverly Buchanan called Macon home for part of her career. During her time here, she created concrete sculptures that can be found around Macon. One of these sculptures, “Ruins and Rituals”, is located on the MAS Sweetgum Trail.

Many of her land art pieces like “Ruins and Rituals” call into question the made vs. unmade. Over time the pieces will return to the earth, and break down due to weathering.

We are honored to have several of her pieces in the Museum’s Permanent Collection. Her work is also held at the Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum, High Museum of Art, and many other well-known institutions.

She would have been 85 today.

Meet Carin Wagner!

Wagner is an award-winning South Florida artist. Through her ever-expanding Vulnerable and Vanishing Trees series, Wagner highlights the loss of tree species as a result of climate collapse.

As visitors move between the vibrant paintings and the ghostly monochromatic suspended images, the artist intends to convey the life-or-death situation of endangered trees.

Vulnerable and Vanishing trees will be exhibited at the Museum from November 7, 2025 through April 18, 2026. Join us for an artist talk November 13th at 2PM!
