Camp Discovery



Discovery Camp The Museum of Arts and Sciences is your child’s playground this summer as they explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, plus Art (STE+aM) through the unique art-infused science programming offered during the Museum’s Discovery Camp.

The Museum’s Live Animal shows, Planetarium show, Environmental Education experiences, Art exhibits, and a visit to the Summer BlockbusterBlack Holes: Space Warps & Time Twists—are all part of the fun of summer day camp at the Museum of Arts and Sciences.

Camp Discovery is for children having completed Kindergarten through Age 15. General summer camp registration is open now and advance registration is required!

Art Camps

“Bring It To Life!” Animation Workshop « This session has been cancelled!
Dates: June 9, 11, and 13
Time: 10 am to 4 pm

Ages: 11 through 15
Instructor: Al Waller, B.F.A., Savannah College of Art and Design, educator and filmmaker, creator of Ultra-Galactic Gung Ho Gurus
Description: Students design and create their own armature-based, stop-motion character which can be posed in a variety of ways. Once built, they’re instructed in the basics of animation by bringing that character to life in various animation exercises that they film. Students take home their character and receive a copy of their animation exercises in digital format. They learn about free and low cost resources to continue their own animation efforts after the course is over. This course is appropriate for beginners and for students who have already taken stop-motion animation courses.
ArtVentures
Dates: July 14 through 18
Hours: 9 am to 4 pm
(8:30 am drop-off and 5:15 pm pick-up for an additional charge)

Second Child must be in this Session.
Ages: Finished 2nd grade through finished 5th grade
Description: Campers explore drawing, painting, sculpture and more. They create their own artwork in a variety of media to take home at the end of this week-long workshop focused exclusively on art.

Science Camps

Starship MAS: Take Off to Space! « This session has been cancelled!
Dates: July 7 through 11
Time: 9 am to 4 pm
(8:30 am drop-off and 5:15 pm pick-up for an additional charge)
Fee: $165 Members / $185 Non-Members (First Child)
$145 Members / $165 Non-Members (Second Child)

Ages: Finished 4th grade through finished 5th grade
Description: Travel to the outer edges of the galaxy in the Mark Smith Planetarium. Explore and learn about the planets of the solar system and the depths of Black Holes in space with the Museum’s Planetarium Director/Science Curator. Build and launch a rocket. Experiment with space-inspired art.
Mini-Zoo MAS: Zoo Crew in Training
Dates: July 21 through 25
Hours: 9 am to 4 pm
(8:30 am drop-off and 5:15 pm pick-up for an additional charge)
Fee: $165 Members / $185 Non-Members (First Child)
$145 Members / $165 Non-Members (Second Child)
Second Child must be in this Session.
Ages: Finished 4th grade through finished 5th grade
Description: It’s all about animals. Go behind the scenes in the Mini-Zoo to learn all about the Museum’s 70+ small critters. Meet every day with the Museum’s Live Animal Curator to explore the care and feeding of everything from hissing cockroaches to birds and reptiles.

Description: Younger Campers explore the new world of the freshly renovated Discovery House, the Museum’s summer exhibit Black Holes: Space Warps & Time Twists, model ships from the Museum’s collection, Live Animal shows, Planetarium shows, and Outdoor Education plus Art projects, games, and much more.
MAS Discovery Camp II
Dates: June 23 through 27
Time: 9 am to 4 pm
